Buddhist Sermon Outline Template

ධර්ම දේශනා සැකැස්ම

Theravāda sermon outline with Pali opening, three-part teaching structure, central Pali quote, and closing benediction. For temple Sunday-school and observance use.

A Theravāda Buddhist sermon (ධර්ම දේශනා) outline

Sinhala temple Sunday-school lessons and observance-day discourses follow the Theravāda sermon skeleton — a formal Pali opening (Namō Tassa), a stated topic, three teaching sections (opening reflection → central teaching → practical application), a Pali quote block from a chosen sutta, and a closing benediction. This template gives the speaker that complete scaffold so the time before delivery is spent on the content, not the layout.

What's included

  • Namō Tassa formal opening
  • Topic + date + location + occasion line
  • Opening reflection section
  • Central teaching with a Pali verse blockquote + explanation
  • Three-point breakdown of the teaching
  • Practical application — small daily practices for the listener
  • Closing Sabbe Sattā benediction in Pali

Frequently asked questions

Is this template for a full discourse or for the speaker's notes?
It's for the speaker's outline — the layout the monk or lay preacher writes from when preparing. Expand each section into the discourse as you deliver it; the skeleton keeps the structure intact under improvisation.
Can I include Pali diacritics correctly?
Yes. The editor uses standard Unicode so Pali diacritics (ā, ī, ū, ṅ, ñ, ṭ, ḍ, ṇ, ḷ, ṃ) all type and copy correctly. Use the language toggle to switch between Sinhala script for the Sinhala portions and Latin script for Pali transliterations.
Can I print or project the outline during delivery?
Yes. File → Download as PDF for a printed copy that fits in a small folder. For projecting, use Display Settings to bump the font size to 24px so the outline reads cleanly from a few meters away.
